PART 4 - Changing Hearts and Minds

A groundbreaking nature of the research were the group interviews held with laypeople who had no information or understanding of Deaf people or deaf issues.  Eight focus groups were held; these were all moderated by Sarah Hirons (a hearing person), and the transcripts analysed by Dr Paddy Ladd and Dr Steven Emery (Deaf persons). The aim was to investigate whether it was possible to change people's hearts and minds on Deaf issues by presenting participants with positive perceptions of Deaf culture, for example, Deaf poetry, drama, comedy or music.
